QiRexSound has released QiRex Player, a freeware SFZ player instrument in VSTi plugin format for Windows.

Hello! I have created a SFZ Player, with ADSR. It’s free.

QiRex Player is available for free download via KVR Forums (1.54MB download size, 32-bit VSTi plugin for Windows).

I prefer when plugins are distributed as a ZIP or RAR archive, rather than an EXE file as in this case. But, I’ve scanned the EXE, installed the plugin and there were no threats found. It should be safe to use.

The plugin itself looks useful. It features a very simple interface, offering only a button to load the SFZ file and an ADSR envelope to control the volume. This simplicity can be a plus in some cases.

I’ll have to see how it compares to Zampler when it comes to loading more complicated SFZ files and then I’ll be able to give my final verdict. Speaking of Zampler, you can grab that great free SFZ player here.
