AfroDJMac has released Gated Reverb, a free Ableton Live rack designed for easy creation of that huge 80s reverb sound.

I found myself looking for those 80s drum sounds and created an Ableton Live effect rack called the AfroDJMac Gated Reverb Rack. It’s a pretty simple but very useful effect rack. It gives you control over various reverb parameters and various gate parameters.

Gated Reverb is available for free download via AfroDJMac’s website (1.5MB download size, requires Ableton Live). Please note that you’ll need to submit a working email address in order to recieve the download link.

Basically, the rack combines a reverb effect and a noise gate. By setting the proper threshold and release on the gate, it’s possible to get a huge reverb sound without muddying the whole mix.
