FM-Four by ToneBytes.
ToneBytes has released FM-Four, a free (although ad-supported) virtual FM synthesizer plugin for Windows.
FM-Four – is a simple VST instrument that recreates four operators FM synthesis with some improvements like good known YAMAHA OPL/OPL2 chipsets.
FM-Four is available for free download via ToneBytes (2.9MB download size, 32-bit VSTi plugin format for Windows). Be careful when installing the plugin and make sure you deselect the software which you don’t want to be installed on your machine!
The plugin features 8 different FM synthesis algorithms, 4 operators and 8 waveforms per operator. FM-Four comes with 64 factory presets and a built-in preset manager.
I’m quite eager to test this one (still looking for a freeware FM synthesizer that will perfectly fit my needs), but I have to say that I’m not a fan of installers which include toolbars and similar software. In my opinion pay-what-you-want is the best model for developers who want their software to be available for free download, but with the option to earn some cash.
