Monocasual has released an updated version of Giada, a free VST host application developed for use in live performances.

Giada is a free, minimal, hardcore audio tool for djs and live performers. Load or record up to 32 samples, choose to play them in single mode (drum machine) or loop mode (sequencer) and start the show with your computer keyboard as a controller.

Giada is available for free download via Monocasual (0.5MB download size, standalone application for Windows, Mac, and Linux).

The application is released as open source and is available for all major platforms. It looks interesting, I’ll download it and give it a go this weekend.

I currently use MuLab live and am quite happy with it, but I’m always interested in new freeware music making apps. From what I could gather on the official website, Giada is basically a looper (it allows you to record up to 32 loops) which is capable of loading VST effects.
