Winkl by Tek’it Audio.
Tek’it Audio has released Winkl, a freeware (requires a Like on Facebook) foldback distortion effect in VST plugin format for Windows and Mac.
Winkl is a free foldback distortion for VST2, VST3 and Audio Unit plug-in formats. Winkl is not a subtle distortion, this is well suited for bass and leads, made to make scream your sounds.
Winkl is available for free download via Tek’it Audio (4.4MB download size, 32-bit & 64bit VST/AU plugin format for Windows & Mac).
What foldback distortion does is mirroring the top of the waveform, as opposed to simply cutting it off, like a regular clipper effect would do. This results in a characteristic and aggressive distortion effect.
Winkl is simple to use, as it only comes with two control knobs (Gain and Drive). I was pleasantly surprised when I noticed that the plugin is available for Mac also. From what I remember, Tek’it Audio used SynthEdit to make plugins in the past, making them limited to the Windows platform. Good job, guys!
