FireBird 2 by Tone2.
I know that this probably old news for you dear readers… but in case you haven’t heard already, Tone2 has re-released their fantastic FireBird 2 syntesizer VSTi plugin for Windows as freeware!
After seven years of faithful service, the time has come to set the bird free. Firebird itself has become vintage and even though it’s no longer profitable to remain a commercial product, we feel that more people should deserve an opportunity to enjoy this sometimes heavily underestimated synthesizer.
FireBird 2 is now available for free download via Tone2 (18.8MB download size, 32-bit & 64-bit VSTi plugin format for Windows).
Thankfully, no registration (or anything similar, really) is required. Simply visit the Tone2 website and hit the download button to get your free copy of the mighty FireBird 2.
The virtual instrument itself features 84 different morphable oscillator types and 38 different filter types, along with a built-in arpeggiator, 13 effect types, 11 different skins and 437 factory presets. Wow, that’s a whole lot of stuff to get for free!
Finally, you can load up your FireBird 2 with even more free presets which can be downloaded @ Xenos Soundworks, Eternity Sound, and Rekkerd. Many thanks to Tone2 for releasing this great instrument for free!

onI had a rule–no more free synths unless they come in 64 bit versions. I broke my rule for this synth. Absolutely great sounds!

on“We have tried to build a 64 bit version, but unfortunately we had to notice that FireBird can’t be compiled to 64 bit. The libraries from Steinberg’s VST SDK v2.3 and the VSTGUI 2.x are 32bit only. Porting FireBird to 64 bit would mean a complete redesign of the synthesizer. Currenly we got no plans for a FireBird2 (which would be also 64 bit & Mac) in the near future.”
