Francis Prève has released MS-20 Mini Simpler Sixpack, a free collection of Korg MS-20 Mini samples for Ableton Live.
Having tinkered with an MS-20 Mini for the better part of the summer, I figured it was time for another six-pack of Simpler patches. Since the MS-20’s filters are so distinctive, I focused on their sound as the basis for these presets.
MS-20 Mini Simpler Sixpack is available for free download via Francis Prève (4.9 MB download size, ZIP archive, contains presets in ALS format for Ableton Live, 6 audio samples in 24-bit WAV format).
The pack features six patches which were designed by Francis Prève and recorded from his Korg MS-2o Mini. The included sounds are pretty cool, they feature loads of modulation and can be used mainly as leads and bass sounds.
Although the project was created for use with Ableton Live, it also includes individual WAV files. You can easily load this up in your favorite sampler and use them in your DAW even if you’re not an Ableton Live user. The included samples are long enough to ensure that natural sounding loops are possible, even though there’s lots of modulation in the recorded patches.
The MS-20 Mini is a re-release of the legendary MS-20 analog synthesizer by Korg. The modern version of this iconic synthesizer features the same filters and analog circuitry as the original, packed in a smaller box. Here’s a video demonstration of the Korg MS-20 Mini and its capabilities:
