Fairly Confusing Waveforms has released Arctic Rooster, a free sample based (you’ll never guess who’s been sampled) synthesizer for Native Instruments Kontakt.

Today I serve Arctic Rooster. It’s a sort of neo-retro organic synthesizer for Kontakt. It is based on very short waveforms, serving as ‘oscillators’, that has been cut from recording of an authentic Icelandic rooster that I took this summer.

Arctic Rooster is available for free download via Fairly Confusing Waveforms (710 kB download size, ZIP archive, contains 1 instrument in NKI format for NI Kontakt).

The instrument is based on samples of a rooster. The Icelandic sort. The author has also captured samples of his own voice, turning this virtual instrument into a one-of-a-kind human/rooster duet!

The final product sounds quite similar to a toy organ. Actually, it reminds me of a Bontempi electronic air organ I used to own. I sold it a while ago, but I kept the samples on my HDD and will probably release them for free sometime in the future.

Fairly Confusing Waveforms is on a roll with unusual yet great sounding freebie releases. Check out the rest of his website if you’re into this sort of stuff, there are loads of free goodies to choose from.

Please note that the full version NI Kontakt 4.2.4 or higher is required in order to play this instrument without limitations. It will work for 20 minutes in the freeware Kontakt Player.
