Sensomusic has announced that their Usine Stage live VST host application is now available for free download for a limited time.
Usine Stage a perfect introduction to Usine Hollyhock, and will let you create complete sets for composition or live situations. Usine stage is a part of the previous version of Usine Hollyhock, named Usine pro 5.
Usine Stage is available for free download via Sensomusic (64.4 MB download size, ZIP archive, standalone VST host application, 32-bit Windows support).
Usine Stage is a somewhat feature limited but still rather capable version of Usine Pro by Sensomusic. It offers more features than Usine Free, however removing some functionality offered in the full product.
Unlike the standard free version of the software, Usine Stage supports 16 audio in/outs, unlimited MIDI devices, and 8 tracks with up to 8 patches per track. The regular free version of Usine offers only 4 racks, with other serious limitations. A more in-depth feature comparison of the three different versions of this live VST host application is available on the official website.
Usine Stage can work as a flexible modular VST host for live use, as well as the virtual playground for audio experimentation in your home studio. It allows the user to connect several virtual instruments and effects using virtual cables, with full MIDI support. You can use it to build a modular effects rack using your favorite VST plugins!
This is a time limited offer, so the advice is to download this interesting piece of software for free while you have the chance and give it a go when you have time. There’s no specific info on when the free offer will expire! The official press release states that Usine Stage will remain free for several weeks.
I’ll seriously consider Usine Stage as an alternative plugin host in my current live setup. I usually use MuLab as the VST host, powered by various freeware plugins including Tyrell N6 and several Variety Of Sound effects.
