222 Free Beatbox Samples Released By Fairly Confusing Waveforms

Fairly Confusing Waveforms has released Drums By Mouth, a free collection of vocal percussion samples created with a vocal technique known as beatboxing.

This is another unusual percussion sample set I made. This time, it is made from sounds of mouth. I took a session of myself making strange noises in front of microphone and then cut the sounds to make them drum alike.

Drums By Mouth is available for free download via Fairly Confusing Waveforms (7.6 MB download size, download size, ZIP archive, contains 222 beatbox samples in 24-bit WAV format).

The samples were recorded using an Audio Technica AT3035 microphone and passed through a Focusrite ISO One preamp. Some of the sounds have been re-pitched to amplify the bass frequency range or to achieve a different timbre. Most of the beatbox kick drum samples were enhanced by lowering the pitch of the original sound.

Fairly Confusing Waveforms has also provided a simple kit mapping for the Battery 2 virtual drum sampler. There’s no need to worry if you don’t own Battery 2 though, since the included WAV samples can be used in pretty much any sampler out there. If you’re looking for a freeware sampler to load up your drum sounds, grab Shortcircuit 1 by Vember Audio.

I’m happy to admit that Fairly Confusing Waveforms are on quite a roll with their free sample packs, both quality and originality-wise. The stuff they sample is completely crazy, yet it sounds so cool. There’s nothing better than some organic percussion samples to layer on top of your electronic drum sounds. Take a look at their hilariously named Breaking Bread sample pack for more good stuff like this. Bread percussion, beatbox samples, balloon guitar, what’s next guys?
