Free Acoustic Snare Sample Library Released By RW5 Samples

RW5 Samples has released Snare 04, a great sounding free multi-sampled acoustic snare sample library suitable for use in rock and folk music.

Big & Rich! This deep snare has fat low-mids and a silky top. Similar to a snare you may hear in ballad from Jet or Rachael Yamagata, or even something uptempo, like Petty’s “Refugee.”

Snare 04 is available for free download via RW5 Samples (14.6 MB download size, ZIP archive, contains 24 audio samples in 24-bit WAV format, includes mappings in NKI/GOG/TCI formats).

This sample library was previously priced at $9, however it is now a completely free download. Snare 04 packs 24 velocity layers of the sampled snare drum. The included samples are nice and fat in the bottom end of the spectrum, which is something I always appreciate in a snare drum.

Since the kit comes with 24 velocity layers, this sample library is perfect for sticking on top of recorded drum loops, as well as for adding character and punch to badly recorded snare tracks. It is incredible how much EQ and compression time you can potentially save by simply layering a good sounding drum hit on top of a badly recorded one.

If you liked this freebie pack, you’ll find many similar and more than reasonably priced products on the RW5 Samples website. Browsing through the audio demo tracks, I liked the Snare 02 collection in particular. Such a great punchy snare sound! Their site also contains great sounding kick drum and tom sample libraries.

most of the time i work with acoustic drums in MIDI format, so I simply import a sampler loaded up with a better snare sample and mix it in with the original. when the drums are recorded, if the snare track is not too complex, you could simply paste the snare samples in a new track in the place of the main snare hits from the snare track. most of the time the ghost hits don’t really need layering.
