FreeAlpha v3.3 by LinPlug.

LinPlug has announced the public beta release of an updated version of FreeAlpha, a powerful yet CPU friendly freeware virtual analogue synthesizer for Windows and Mac based computers.

Here’s a preview of the new FreeAlpha. Now Mac and PC (and including a couple of bugfixes), Thanks everyone for your help!

The latest public beta version of FreeAlpha is available for free download via KVR Audio (9.36 MB download size, EXE/DMG intaller, available in VSTi/AUi plugin formats for Windows & Mac).

FreeAlpha used to be one of my go-to synthesizers for live use and I’m glad to see that it’s still being improved by the LinPlug development team. It’s a fairly powerful virtual instrument inspired by the Alpha Juno-1 analogue synthesizer by Roland. It’s incredibly easy on the CPU, so I was able to run it on my old Intel Atom powered netbook without any issues. FreeAlpha is pretty much the perfect tool for re-creating those classic 80s pads and brass sounds, although it also works good for analogue basses, leads, etc.

The new version of FreeAlpha introduces an improved GUI (no major changes there, just a slightly cleaner look), an expanded modulation matrix with eleven modulation slots, undo/redo functionality (a handy future to have at your disposal when you mess up a great sounding patch), as well as a cool new full screen patch browser. My favorite new features though are filter saturation and unison mode which have been added from the full version of the Alpha virtual synthesizer.
