SlickEQ by TDR & VOS.

Variety Of Sound has announced the release of SlickEQ, a free mixing/mastering equalizer in VST/AU plugin format and their first release developed in tandem with the highly acclaimed freeware development team of Tokyo Dawn Labs.

TDR VOS SlickEQ is a mixing/mastering equalizer designed for ease of use, musical flexibility and impeccable sound. SlickEQ is a collaborative project by Variety Of Sound (Herbert Goldberg) and Tokyo Dawn Labs (Vladislav Goncharov and Fabien Schivre).

SlickEQ is available for free download via Tokyo Dawn Labs (4.1 MB download size, EXE installer, available in 32-bit & 64-bit VST/AU plugin format for Windows & Mac).

For the first time in history, a plugin developed by Variety Of Sound is available for both Windows and Mac based DAWs. The brand new SlickEQ was developed as a collaboration between Herbert of Variety Of Sound and the Tokyo Dawn Labs team, namely Vladislav Goncharov and Fabien Schivre.

All three developers have major freeware releases in their portfolios. Vladislav Goncharov is the man behind the brilliant Molot compressor, as well as my all time favorite limiter, the fantastic Limiter6 which I use for mastering all the time. Fabien Schivre has developed the superb TDR Feedback Compressor, a unique feed-forward compressor for mastering purposes. It’s safe to say that these three developers have formed the first ever “superband” of freeware VST plugin development.

SlickEQ is a semi parametric equalizer with advanced saturation capabilities. It features four distinct EQ models modeled after classic “American”, “British”, “German” and “Soviet” equalizer designs with optional non-linearity. Each model comes with different EQ curves and non-linear behaviors.

Of course, the Stateful Saturation algorithms by Variety Of Sound are included in this release. The plugin also features four separate output stages (“Linear”, “Silky”, “Mellow” and “Deep”). Obviously, SlickEQ offers loads of control over the kind of analogue mojo you’re looking for.

I am very excited about this release and I can’t wait to give it a proper test this weekend. Major props to TDR and VOS for teaming up for this release and let’s hope we’ll see more collaborative releases such as this one in the future!
