Tiny Chaos Engine – Free Weird Percussion Drum Instrument For Kontakt

Sound Dust has announced the release of Tiny Chaos Engine, a free Kontakt drum machine instrument for triggering and sequencing odd percussive sounds.

Tiny Chaos Engine is a “found sound” drum-machine. It’s a sophisticated groove box made with a collection of unlikely sound sources that include a lawn mower, kite flying, celery, static electricity, trickling water and a broken piano as well as some more obvious percussive sources.

The instrument is delivered with a factory collection of “found sound” binaural percussive samples which, judging by the demo video embedded below, sound exceptionally good. Using such sound instead (or layered on top) of more traditional drum hits, can add a great organic vibe to your percussive tracks.

Putting the included sounds to good use, the interface features 12 sample engines paired up with 12 sequencer engines for easy percussive pattern creation. The CHAOS button is used to wreck havoc on the current patter, while the ORDER button returns things back to normal. You’ll also find a politely named RTFM section to get you up to speed with the functionality and workflow of this virtual drum machine.

Apparently, a more complex and feature packed version of the Tiny Chaos Engine will be released in the future. It will be available as a commercial product. For now, we have access to the free version which already has a lot to offer. Although this is a free instrument, Sound Dust notes that they would appreciate it if the users signed up for their mailing list in order to stay informed about future releases. This step is completely optional, though.

Please note that you’ll need the full version of Native Instruments Kontakt in order to run this instrument without limitations. The freeware Kontakt Player instrument will give you 15 minutes of use at a time.
