Retroband Saturation VST Plugin By Michael Kingston Is Re-Released As Freeware!

RetroBand by Michael Kingston.

Plugin developer Michael Kingston has announced that his old Retroband saturation effect in VST plugin format for Windows and OSX is now re-released as freeware!

RetroBand is a distortion unit at heart, but this type and concept hasn’t been previously available as a digital model. It goes from warming, sharpening, roughing up, softening and smoothing – or all these combined. It may desirably enrich sterile sound sources.

This is quite a blast from the past (here’s the original coverage on Rekkerd about RetroBand being released back in 2006!) but it never hurts to get a high quality distortion effect for free. RetroBand was definitely ahead of its time back in the day, considering the functionality and available features. It was one of the most versatile distortion effects on the market, offering all sorts of flavors from subtle saturation to full blown distortion.

The plugin was priced at €39 and the developer has also released a free version called RetroBand Lite, with a limited feature set. Now the full version of RetroBand can be downloaded and used for free, thanks to the generosity of Michael Kingston. Thanks for that!

I couldn’t find a demo video for RetroBand anywhere, so I’ve embedded a RetroBand Lite demo below. You’ll find several audio examples of the full version on the official website linked below.

RetroBand is available for free download via Michael Kingston’s website (1.2 MB download size, EXE installer, 32-bit VST plugin format for Windows & OSX).
