WOK has announced the release of PHYMO-XS, a free digital modeling synthesizer in VSTi plugin format for Windows based host applications.
Our last “one-trick-pony” series freebie – a simple physical modelling synth based on Karplus Strong.
The instrument is based on Karplus–Strong string synthesis, which is a way of emulating plucked string sounds by looping a short waveform through a filtered delay line. The resulting sounds are similar to the ones produced by plucked string instruments such as guitars, banjos, etc.
PHYMO-XS features six parameters which affect the timbre of the sound and three additional parameters for controlling the envelope. All in all, this is a rather simple instrument but it does its job rather well.
The instrument is a free download at WOK’s Facebook page. There’s no need to register or log in to your account, simply hit the download link to get your free copy of the virtual instrument.
Sadly, this release marks then end of the One Trick Pony freeware plugin series by WOK. He had spawn several incredibly cool free tools as a part of that series, my favorite one thus far being the MSC-01 mid/side utility. The goal of this series was to create a toolbox of easy to use plugins for simple tasks and WOK has delivered some seriously good stuff in the past several months. Thanks for that!
