IO – Freeware VST Plugin Effect Collection Released By B. Serrano

B. Serrano has announced the release of IO, an interesting collection of five different freeware audio effects in VST plugin format for Windows.

IO is a set of several effects. These effects are driven by a sophisticated GUI envelope. Default time value is one second. Duration is theoretically infinite. So, this envelope can run from 1 nanosecond to several minutes, or even hours.

Less than three weeks after the release of the Selena string machine instrument, B. Serrano has surprised us with yet another freeware release. This time, he has release an effect bundle for Windows.

The IO plugin bundle consists of five different audio effects:

  • Multi-Mode Filter
  • Auto-Pan
  • Volume (Tremolo)
  • Stereo Phaser
  • Ring Modulator

Looking at the GUIs, these effects are somewhat reminiscent of Cableguys products such as FilterShaper and VolumeShaper. Obviously, Cableguys stuff is more advanced but this new bundle by B. Serrano can probably work as a decent freeware alternative.

For example, the IO Filter plugin features a custom envelope with up to 32 stages, paired up with a multi-mode filter. The envelope can loop or work in one shot mode and also sync to the host tempo. You can do some pretty amazing stuff with such a plugin, from fake sidechain compression to all sorts of drum loop processing and sound mangling.

Another part of the bundle which caught my eye is the ring modulator. There aren’t many freeware ring modulators out there and I’m very keen to try this one out.

IO bundle is available for free download via B. Serrano (8.2 MB download size, ZIP archive, contains 5 audio effects in 32-bit VST plugin format for Windows, made with SynthEdit).
