AfroDJMac has announced the release of Univox Bass Lucy, a free electric bass guitar sample library for Ableton Live featuring the sounds of a Univox bass guitar from the 70′s.
The bass, named Lucy, is one of my favorite basses I’ve ever played. It’s got a great punchy, thumpy sound, and it’s slightly smaller than traditional bass guitars, so it plays almost like a guitar.
AfroDJMac has been releasing these fantastic Ableton Live packs for ages now and his latest freebie pack is yet another must-have instrument for the Live user community. Univox Bass Lucy is based on several multi-samples of a vintage bass guitar, which has been recorded from several different sources with up to three round robin layers per note.

The pack features three individual sample groups which can be mixed together in order to achieve different types of bass guitar sounds. The first group features the samples of the bass guitar being played through a Fender guitar amplifier, the second group features the bass amplifier sound, while the third group features the room microphone takes.
By mixing the three sound sources together, it’s possible to achieve a broad range of different bass guitar sounds for use in a variety of music genres from indie and pop to electronica. A good starting point would be to turn the bass amplifier group almost all the way up and adding a bit of guitar amp and room microphone sounds as a flavor.
Things can get pretty wild if you decide to use the built-in arpeggiator or the parallel delay effect. Take a look at the demo video below for a couple of cool ideas for using this free bass rack.
Luckily for non-Ableton users, the download pack also contains AIFF versions of the samples. These can be loaded in pretty much any sampler out there. If you don’t have a sampler installed on your computer, grab Shortcircuit 1 or TX16Wx from our list of free sampler instruments.
