Samplephonics have announced the release of 513 Free Tube Drum Samples, a free collection of drum hits which have been heavily saturated with analogue equipment.
The pack was created as a special gift for Samplephonics customers and email subscribers, however everyone interested can download the pack for free from the product page linked below. According to Samplephonics, their initial plan was to create no more than 80 tube processed drum samples, but they got a bit carried away and ended up with over 500 individual hits. :)

If you follow BPB on a regular basis, you’re probably well aware of the fact that I’m a huge fan of well-made drum sample packs (and that I also like re-sampling drum samples from audio cassettes). This latest freebie from Samplephonics definitely falls into that category. Even though I didn’t really like all of the hits which are included in this pack (some of them are just a bit too harsh for my taste), there are still some absolutely fantastic drum samples inside the 513 Free Tube Drum Samples collection.
Generally speaking, Samplephonics are well known for creating high quality commercial sample libraries and being able to get some of their custom made sounds for free is certainly a chance which shouldn’t be missed. They did a really good job with this free sample pack too, providing a nice selection of acoustic and electronic drum sounds which have been crunched up with tube saturation.
Apart from the samples in 24-bit WAV format, the download pack also contains a set of instrument patches for most major sampler formats. If you use NI Kontakt, Ableton Sampler, Reason NN-XT, or any other sampler listed in the downloads section below, you’ll have the option to simply load up the appropriate patch in your sampler instrument of choice and have all of the sounds automatically mapped across your MIDI keyboard. The free SFZ format is also included, which is definitely a nice touch!
Please note that you’ll need to be signed in to your Samplephonics user account in order to download the free samples. It took a while for me to receive the download links after submitting my free order yesterday (the download link arrived to my inbox this morning, with over ten hours or delay), but that was probably just a temporary server hiccup which you won’t necessarily experience yourself.
Sadly, there are no audio or video demos available (yes there is an audio demo and it’s added to the article now – thanks to our reader YSP for the tip!), however the download isn’t too large so it won’t really cost you anything to download these free drum hits and give them a try. I think that you’ll definitely find some keepers inside if you’re into saturated drum samples for use in hip hop and electronic music.

onGreat pack. I don’t know about the kicks. They are probably for hip-hop? But the hats and cymbals are great, mostly live-like! And a good range of standard percussion sounds. Love it!
