SampleScience has released Vortex SoundWaves Free Pack, a free collection of electric pianos, abstract textures and soundscapes designed for use with Native Instruments Kontakt 5 and any SFZ compatible sampler.
The freebie pack was actually released some time ago, but it now includes the updated versions of the Kontakt instrument patches, sporting fully scripted user interfaces. The refurbished NKI patches with custom GUI scripts significantly expand the sonic palette of the library, providing instant access to volume envelope and EQ controls, reverb parameters, an arpeggiator and unison/portamento modes.

The sounds included in Vortex SoundWaves Free Pack are taken from the commercial Vortex SoundWaves v2 sound library which is priced at £9.95 on Sampleism. The contents of the freebie pack can be used royalty free in music projects, but they’re not released into the public domain (which means that they can’t be used for the creation of other virtual instruments, sample libraries, etc.).
It’s not easy to fit these sounds into a single category, but my opinion is that any fan of chillwave, old school electronica and/or dusty old Boards of Canada style sonic textures will love them. The freebie pack includes an absolutely brilliant sounding noisy electric piano patch, a nice fat analog style bass patch and some really cool abstract pads and soundscapes which can work great as background elements in a mix. You’ll also find an epic analog synth pad which would perfectly fit into an 80s video game commercial or a sci-fi cartoon or action movie soundtrack.
If you need some free drums to go along with these synth sounds, you should definitely grab a copy of the recently released Vintage Drum Elements freeware drum machine VST/AU plugin by Single Cycle Audio. And if you’re more of a keyboard person than a beat maker, you’ll probably like the free Thales Model I Demo rompler instrument by SampleScience.
