Loops de la Crème has announced the release of Surprise Sample Pack 2, a freely downloadable (donationware with no required minimum donation amount) collection of audio loops, one shot samples and NI Kontakt patches.
So, the unusual thing about this release is that it is meant to be a “surprise pack”, as in not letting you know in advance what kinds of sounds you’ll find inside the product. BPB is here to ruin the surprise, though. So, SPOILER ALERT (seriously, if you don’t want to know what’s in the pack before downloading, skip the article and go grab the product from Bandcamp right away, it’s really quite good)!
The contents are sorted into three categories – one shots, loops and NKI patches. The one shots are provided as standard stereo WAV files (24-bit, 48 kHz) and they cover a wide range of sounds, ranging from simple electronic percussive hits and chiptune samples to some pretty neat foley sounds and complex sound effects. The pack contains 49 one shot samples in total.
The loops are sorted into three groups, covering tribal percussion, vintage drum loops and organic textures. While there aren’t too many loops in the pack (only fourteen loops in total), they all sound really good. The tribal percussion loops are particularly nice and I can see myself using these quite often in the future!
Finally, the included Kontakt instrument is a simple but potentially very useful sub bass patch. It’s a kind of sub bass instrument that you’ll find really handy if you make hip hop or similar bass heavy music. The instrument is based on a simple multi-sampled sine wave sub bass patch that can be layered with noise and a click transient. You can also add a bit of saturation in Kontakt using the provided custom user interface.
All things considered, the Surprise Sample Pack 2 is a very nice collection of sounds. You can download it for free from the Bandcamp page linked below by entering zero as the donation amount, but it’s totally worth a donation if you find some use for these sounds, as you most probably will. You’ll find several other interesting freebies on the Loops de la Crème website, along with the previous Surprise Sample Pack that they’ve released some time ago.
