Particular-Sound has introduced Aphelion V1.5 FREE, a free cinematic sound library for Native Instruments Kontakt and all WAV compatible samplers.
The library contains 108 audio samples and loops in 24-bit WAV format, along with a set of nine instrument patches for NI Kontakt. The Kontakt patches are built around a custom scripted user interface that provides a decent amount of control over the sounds, although it does look a bit crammed and perhaps too busy. Either way, the functionality is what matters the most, and the GUI works great for controlling quite a few useful parameters (the step sequencer, the amplitude envelope, the filter and a range of built-in effects such as reverb and flanger) without having to dig deeper into Kontakt’s instrument editor.
See also: Free Cinematic Sound Effects By Generdyn!Although the full version of NI Kontakt is required in order to use the provided patches without a time limit (the sound will time out after fifteen minutes in Kontakt Player), the library also includes WAV files which can be used in any compatible DAW or virtual instrument. This is great news for non-Kontakt users, of course, as the included samples and loops are very well made and totally usable even outside of NI Kontakt. The included one shot samples cover a variety of swooshes, impacts and build-up sequences that would work equally well in cinematic soundtracks and modern electronica.
