Exotic – Free Big Room Synthesizer VSTi Plugin By Noizefield

Noizefield has announced the release of Exotic, a free modern sounding subtractive synthesizer VSTi plugin for Windows based digital audio workstations.

The synth is quite similar to a couple of other freebies that were released by Noizefield earlier this year, namely 4 Tune and Club Voltage. Exotic comes with a similar set of features, mostly suitable for creating modern big room house leads and bass sounds. It comes in a slightly less polished package, though, but packs a couple of neat tricks up its sleeve that still make it an interesting freebie worth checking out.

First off, oscillator two features a waveform editor, allowing the user to draw pretty much any waveform shape and use it as the sound source. The second oscillator also features a slightly confusing parameter labeled Fatner, which sounds sort of like unison but drops in volume with every second played note. This behavior might be intentional, but I can’t really figure out the philosophy behind it. It also might be just a bug that will be polished in a future version. Either way, the oscillators work great for building those metallic leads and mid-range bass sounds that cut through a busy mix and you’ll probably love them if you’re looking for a freebie synthesizer to generate such patches.

The second cool feature is the FX section which includes all of the essential effects required for beefing up those electro leads and bass patches: chorus, distortion and reverb. Just a few clicks to add some chorus and a nice bit of reverb and you already have a pretty decent big room patch at your disposal. The factory presets are also quite decent in terms of quality, providing a nicely organized collection of bread and butter house/electro sounds to get you started.

Other notable features include a couple of modulation envelops, an amplitude envelope, a couple of LFOs and a handy mod matrix to put those modulation sources to good use. To sum it up, Exotic is a pretty neat instrument to check out if you’re lacking an easy to program subtractive synthesizer for building modern house/electro sounds, or if you’re simply looking for a freeware instrument which includes a nice collection of usable presets. The only major drawback is the fact that the plugin will only work in 32-bit host applications on Windows, due to the fact that it was made with SynthMaker.
