Free Tremolo VST Plugin Released By HY-Plugins

HY-Plugins has released HY-TP, a freeware tremolo and autopan effect for VST plugin host applications on Windows.

Being completely spoiled by a developer is nothing really new for us (first there was Kjaerhus Audio with their legendary Classic plugin series, followed by Variety Of Sound and many other talented and generous devs over the years), but it’s quite obvious that HY-Plugins is steadily becoming the most productive freeware plugin developer of today. They have now added yet another entry to their excellent freeware plugin lineup which, unlike some similar freeware VST plugin bundles of yesteryear, works equally well on 32-bit and 64-bit Windows based systems (sadly, Mac OS is still not supported).

HY-TP is their latest release, a multi-effect consisting of a tremolo and an auto-panner. The plugin also features a couple of filters (high-pass and low-pass) without an adjustable resonance parameter and, for the first time ever in a HY-Plugins release, a real-time oscilloscope display (which, unfortunately, can’t be scaled or tweaked in any other way).

In terms of design, HY-TP looks noticeably different compared to HY-Plugins’ previous work. The color scheme is changed to a toned down combination of black and golden brown and the knobs have been completely restyled. The most important difference, though, is the fact that the user interface is now completely scalable, which is a more than welcome addition in this age of high resolution screens and portable devices. It would be fantastic to get this handy bit of UI trickery in older HY-Plugins effects as well.

The plugin’s main functionality is what you’d expect to find in a HY-Plugins release. HY-TP is easy to use and it provides all the necessary tools to get the job done. The tremolo/panner module’s rate and depth parameters can be modulated using the envelope follower and the built-in LFO with a set of five waveforms on offer (and the additional random mode). A dry/wet mix knob is also included, and the CPU hit hovers around 2% at all times (on our i5 based test machine).

As always, you’re getting a ZIP archive containing the DLL file that’s ready to add to your VST plugins directory. There’s no sign-up or activation involved. Make sure you check out the previous HY-Plugins releases as well, since they have lots of excellent stuff on offer, my current favorite being the absolutely brilliant HY-Delay plugin (perfect for use in dub, reggae, or any other music style that puts modulated delays to good use).

HY-TP is available for free download via HY-Plugins (1.61 MB download size, ZIP archive, 32-bit & 64-bit VST plugin format for Windows).

I also preferred the old style. GUI resizing is a very welcome feature, though, and I’m pretty sure it is the main reason why the developer changed the overall look.

The AU in the title got my hopes up lol. AU is a Mac only plugin format, so I thought that this was for Mac and Windows. Thought you should know :)

Sorry about that, I fixed the error now. For something similar on Mac, check out Pecheneg Tremolo (VST/AU compatible).
