Free Width Knob VST/AU Plugin Released By Boz Digital Labs

Boz Digital Labs has introduced Width Knob, a simple stereo width control utility in VST/VST3/AU/AAX/RTAS plugin formats for PC and Mac based digital audio workstations.

According to the developer, Width Knob was inspired by the stereo width control available in Cockos REAPER. Same as its REAPER counterpart, Boz Digital’s freeware plugin can be used to reduce the stereo width to any value between 100% and 0%, as well as to invert the left and right stereo channel. It is not a stereo widener, meaning that it can’t make the processed audio signal sound “wider” than it already is. On the other hand, it’s a great utility for testing the mono compatibility of your master, as well as for limiting the stereo width of the individual elements in your mix.

The user interface is as simple as they get and that’s perfectly fine for such a streamlined plugin. The plugin features just a single knob and a numerical value display below it. The GUI also changes its color as you adjust the stereo width value. My only gripe here is that I’d like to have the numerical value displayed at all times instead of having to hover it with the cursor in order to show the percentage. But it’s a minor thing, really. Other than that, I can’t help but notice that the plugin somehow looks better “in person” than on the screenshots. Also the CPU hit is almost non-existent, which is great, although not surprising.

In order to download your free copy of Width Knob, you’ll need to sign up for a free user account at Boz Digital Labs. This will also gain you direct access to their older freebies, including the interesting Panipulator effect. The installation procedure is simple and there’s no activation required.

Width Knob is available for free download via Boz Digital Labs (2.47 MB download size, EXE installer, 32-bit & 64-bit VST/VST3/AU/AAX/RTAS plugin formats for Windows & Mac OS).
