The Drum Broker has announced the release of Supernatural, a free sample collection inspired by the Netflix show Stranger Things and its thrilling synth based soundtrack.
Coming from a heavily hip hop oriented sample boutique that is The Drum Broker, a retro sounding synth oriented sample collection like Supernatural is a rather surprising release. I don’t mind it at all, though, as it’s one of the coolest pieces of soundware we’ve seen this year. The 80s retro vibe is strong with this one, much like in the Stranger Things intro theme that inspired it.
See also: Free Analog Synthesizer Samples By BPB!The library was crafted by Erik Jackson who used a selection of vintage analog synthesizers and analog outboard gear to create the included samples. Some of the equipment used includes synth classics like the Oberhiem Matrix 6 and Roland Jupiter 8, in addition to various analog effects such as the legendary Roland RE-201 Space Echo. What’s really impressive, though, is how Erik used these instruments to truly capture the character of the Stranger Things theme while at the same time creating samples and loops that sound fresh and original.
The pack contains 140 samples and loops in total, provided in 16-bit WAV format. The contents are sorted into six folders by type: Bass, Leads, Arps, Brass, SFX and Pads. A bonus set of Roland TR-808 drum loops is also included, featuring slightly oversaturated 808 hits that sound unusually gritty.
On a related note, we’ve seen a couple of other Stranger Things inspired soundware releases earlier this month. CZounds has released CZtranger Things, a free Casio CZ sound bank and Reverb.com has released The Synth Sounds of Stranger Things for Ableton Live.
By the way, did you watch Stranger Things? I was really hooked at first, however the story turned out to be a bit underwhelming for me towards the finale. Looking back at it, though, it was a rather enjoyable watch overall. The young actors were fantastic for the most part, and the soundtrack, of course, is simply superb.

onI enjoyed the show but it did somehow feel a bit flat at the end.
As for the freebie, I’m so fed up with having to register on a site to access a free download that I just don’t bother with them anymore.

My thoughts on the show are quite similar, I enjoyed it however I wish the “mystery” part of the story was a bit more intriguing.

onYeah, I think the part I enjoyed the most was how the mystery was unravelled over the episodes. But I guess I was expecting different outcomes. Still, it was an enjoyable view and I’ll probably rewatch it sometime to see how it feels second time around.
As for the giveaway, you can’t checkout without an email address, name and address. That’s what I mean about forced registration. You can enter temp email etc but that’s the whole point. I’m just fed up having to do that for “free” stuff. Especially on sites I won’t be likely to ever buy anything from down the line.
