Free “Shake” Sample Pack Released By ELPHNT

ELPHNT has introduced SHAKE, a high quality free (pay what you want) collection of shaker and tambourine loops and one shot samples in WAV format.

The loops and one shot samples are provided in two different packs which can be downloaded separately. The loops pack contains 48 audio loops in total, labeled by instrument type and BPM value (100 BPM and 120 BPM). The one shots pack contains 47 individual samples, labeled by instrument type.

For this particular project, ELPHNT used three different shakers and one tambourine as the sound sources. Both the loops and the one shot samples have been trimmed and edited very precisely and it’s super easy to fit them into any project, being that they’re provided in 24-bit WAV format. The recordings are clean and almost completely dry, making it possible to process the raw sounds to your liking.

On a related note, ELPHNT has recently released another freely downloadable sample library titled Drones & Noises. It contains 35 extra long drone sounds, adding up to a total of 35 minutes worth of audio material. These drones were created with the intention of adding a bit of noise and texture to music, in order to make “inside the box” digital projects sound less sterile and clean.

Both products can be downloaded completely free of charge via Gumroad (product page is linked below, valid email address required). Optional donations are welcome if you’d like to support the author and his sound design work.

SHAKE is available for free download via Gumroad (2 separate downloads, ZIP archive, contains 48 audio loops & 47 one shot samples in 24-bit WAV format).

  1. Ha! I was thinking about how I need to find some addition shaker sounds for some song(s) that I thought about making today, and moments later, while checking the site for today, I saw this! If that isn’t an example of a good coincidence, I don’t know what it could be!

I still have a small question regarding the samples though: Upon checking the license for this sample pack I noticed that it says that “You may not use the material for commercial purposes”. Does this mean that:
    a) we can not use the sample pack for commercial songs, or
    b) the usual stuff – that we are not allowed to resell the pack / make profit from it?

I went on to read the full license, and other related texts, but couldn’t gather much from them, other than what I already knew from the summarized version.
Though, it did mention not being allowed to make money “derivative works”.
So, to reformulate my previous question – does this apply to whole songs (where these samples are used), or situations where someone tries to act clever, just adds some effects to the samples and tries to sell them like that?

I was also thinking about the ShareAlike term (since the first one, Attribution, basically means to add credit), but I guess that it all really depends on if whole songs fall under “derivative works” or not.

I’m sorry for bothering you with this legal block of text, I really didn’t want to make people fall asleep from reading the comments! Alas, I guess I’m not used to this because I haven’t run into this license before (or maybe I did without knowing, but in a different format), and having a throbbing headache from before isn’t helpful either, hah!

    • a) we can not use the sample pack for commercial songs, or

Right Right, i don´t use Samplepacks like. I can just tell you it is just problems for you. Like Attribution i don´t know how people think it works when you put out a vinyl where should i put a Attribution on a white label vinyl. So the best thing is to use -Creative Commons Samples thats the easyiest way with no problems.

So for me Licensed with A Creative Commons License – Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International & Attribution Sucks ;)

        • Yes thats my way to do it. For me its problematic. If i put a stamp on a 100 white vinyls where should i put a attribution. then i don´t use it. thats the only problem i have with attribution. if other people could handle thats should be ok. there are so much samples out there that everyone find the right sample.

    • Please feel free to use the samples in whatever work you like, the license is there merely to protect me from people redistributing the sample pack in its original form. I’m very aware that the particular wording for that CC license doesn’t really fit how I want to apply it and am in the process of figuring out a better way to do it. Open to any suggestions :)

In the meantime, please feel free to use the material in whatever productions you make. And please share them with me on Facebook or Twitter, I’d love to hear what you make! :D

      • Ah, great! Thank you (and the others) for clearing it up for me. I was at first a bit nervous about asking, to tell the truth; I wondered if what I was asking might actually be common knowledge, and if I was just being dense.
I just read the updated licensing info, and indeed, it is easier to understand than before! Thank you, again!

(Also, sorry for taking such a long time to reply. Real life related things got into my way for a bit, as well as funky sleeping habits, haha.)
