Beat Magazine Releases Free Pioneer DJ Toraiz AS-1 Sample Pack

Beat Magazine has released AS-1 Boogie, a free Pioneer DJ Toraiz AS-1 sample pack for the freeware Zampler instrument (doesn’t include WAV samples).

Toraiz AS-1 is a relatively affordable hardware synthesizer/sequencer manufactured by Pioneer DJ and built in collaboration with Dave Smith Instruments. The synthesis engine is based on DSI’s popular Prophet 6 synthesizer with the idea of providing the same amount of sound design firepower, albeit in a far more portable package. It was designed to be a live performance machine that would also be able to deliver a taste of truly analog sounds to the dance floor.

The guys from Beat Magazine took the AS-1 for a spin and recorded a set of 88 audio loops from it. The loops were slightly processed with virtual effects and outboard gear and are described as “mix ready” by their creators. These are formatted for use with the freeware Beat Zampler instrument, which is one of the finest SFZ players around. You can download it completely free of charge from Beat’s website and expand it with a large selection of free and paid sound banks.

The majority of previously released Beat Zampler sound banks contained individual WAV files for each sample, expanding the compatibility to virtually all sampler instruments and DAWs on the market. Unfortunately, that is not the case with AS-1 Boogie, as all loops are provided in RX2 format. On the other hand, the great news is that the loops will perfectly match your project’s tempo. Hitting the B0 note will play the entire sequence (matched to tempo) while C1 and upwards will play individual slices.
