Free Casio SK-1 Drum Sample Pack By Goldbaby

New Zealand based sound designer Goldbaby has announced the release of Valve SK1 Drums, a free drum sample pack featuring the sounds of the Casio SK-1 toy keyboard processed with a Neve preamp and a valve mixer.

Goldbaby describes this as “an early Christmas present for everyone” and boy, what a lovely little present it is! As you probably already know, Goldbaby specializes in sampling new and old drum machines and synthesizers, providing some of the finest one shot drum sample collections available on the market. Every piece of kit he touches turns into… well, whatever the sonic equivalent of pure gold is, and this latest freebie is no exception to the rule.

Valve SK1 Drums contains both the clean and processed Casio SK-1 drum hits, adding up to 40 drum samples in total. The clean samples are nice and crisp in all their lo-fi glory. You’ll probably love the clean drum hits if you’re into the sound of old school toy synthesizers and those crunchy and gritty Casio drums. The processed hits, on the other hand, add quite a bit of warmth and dimension to the mix, so they don’t necessarily have to be regarded as lo-fi drums, especially the kicks. There’s quite a bit of low end in these warmed up samples, so you can easily use them to spice up regular techno and house drum loops.

The sample pack is offered as a completely free download from Goldbaby’s website, no strings attached. The download pack only includes the WAV samples, but you can also download a NI Maschine version in the dedicated section on Goldbaby’s site.
