Audiolatry Updates Their FREE Grand Piano ROMpler

Audiolatry has just released a free update of their first-ever plugin, the freeware Grand Piano rompler for Windows and macOS.

The main changes include a refreshed user interface and additional effects.

It’s hard to count the amount of free Piano VSTs available nowadays, but Audiolatry’s Grand Piano is a good one you may want to add to your collection.

A Yamaha C5 6’7″ Grand Piano has been recorded with two AKG c414 condenser microphones placed in an AB position at around 12 centimeters above the strings.

Both the piano sound and keys release noises have been captured as separate multi-samples in 48kHz 24bit audio quality.

Grand Piano VST features 16 velocity layers per sampled note and separate volume knobs to control both the piano sound and key release noises.

The semi-deep sampling provides enough realism to capture the instrument’s expressiveness while keeping it lightweight enough for quick and easy use in your DAW.

The updated interface features both cosmetic and functional improvements. There are now 4 effect modules (Reverb, Chorus, Delay & Motion). Motion is a tremolo effect with controls over the speed and depth of modulation.

There’s even a main ADSR Envelope on the left of the GUI, enabling you to further shape the sampled piano sound.

Combine this feature with the added effects, and you have got plenty of room to experiment and move into pure sound design exploration, where the authenticity of the source becomes less important for the end result.

For example, you may want to extend the attack portion of the main envelope and add a big reverb, a delay, some chorus, and tremolo to generate an ethereal pad, vaguely reminiscent of the original piano sound.
Grand Piano supports VST2, VST3, and AU 64-bit plugin formats, and it’s compatible with both Mac and PC.

Being a multi-sampled ROMpler, it occupies 1.19 GB size on the disk; anyway, with its low CPU usage and efficient performance, it ensures smooth integration into your projects.

Whether you’re a composer, songwriter, or producer, Grand Piano is a great free virtual instrument plugin to check out, bringing the majestic sound of a grand piano right in your DAWs and a few additional cool features for further sonic manipulation and enhancement.
