Mildon Studios has announced that all of their previously commercial plugins including SLVR Spreader and Provoc Grader are being re-released as freeware!

This year a very different Mildon Studios is returning to the world of plugins and soundware. We’ve made a lot of changes to our website, policies, and vision, and we can’t wait to open our doors again to the world. And even though the past year has rocked many independent developers with its 64-bit iron fists, somehow twenty fourteen seems to have come with a smile on its face and a basket full of hope.

BPB reader U-o recently left a comment on the free stereo enhancer round-up article, letting me know that SLVR Spreader by Mildon Studios is now a free download (major thanks for that!). I was curious about this, since developers often announce when some of their plugins become free software. How could something like this slip under the radar?

After a bit of investigation it became obvious that there was no official announcement on the Mildon Studios website except for the paragraph quoted above, so I’ve decided to contact the developer via email and see what’s up with SLVR Spreader being free. The plugin was previously priced at $29 and it’s still listed as a commercial plugin over at KVR Audio.

Mildon Studios responded rather quickly, letting me know that they are actually half way through the process of re-releasing their products as freeware and that they are currently adding free download links to the rest of their plugin arsenal. Surprisingly awesome stuff!

They still haven’t published an official announcement about this because their website still isn’t fully updated, however they’ve allowed me to publish the news on BPB with a note that this is still a work in progress. I’ll keep an eye on their site and publish the news as they come. For now, we have the opportunity to get two previously commercial plugins for free!

Provoc Grader is a single band compressor effect VST plugin for Windows. Aren’t most compressors single band? Indeed they are, however Provoc Grader makes it possible to compress only a specific frequency range of an audio track, leaving the rest of the material intact. When done properly, this can lead to more transparent compression while still effectively taming the excessive peaks. It’s like a regular compressor which allows you to lock on to a specific set of frequencies.

Provoc Grader is available for free download via Mildon Studios (4.0 MB download size, ZIP archive, 32-bit VST plugin format for Windows, made with SynthEdit).

SLVR Spreader is a stereo widener effect in VST plugin format for Windows. It can work in three different modes (Wide mode, Delay mode, Shuffle mode) with different algorithms for spreading the stereo image of an audio track. The plugin is capable of treating multiple frequency bands differently, so it’s possible to keep your bass and vocals centered while adding more stereo spread to the top end, for example. SLVR Spreader also offers precise monitoring of the left, right, and center channels.

SLVR Spreader is available for free download via Mildon Studios (1.9 MB download size, ZIP archive, 32-bit VST plugin format for Windows, made with SynthEdit).

Kudos to Mildon Studios for releasing their commercial tools as freeware. I can’t wait to see what’s coming up next. Once again, a big thank you to BPB reader U-o for spotting this freebie and letting me know. Cheers for the support!

  1. Sadly the link is broken, and web searches don’t help in either finding the plugins or the new website described in the article…
    Any news from the developer?

They are not available at the moment, but Mildon Studios might re-release them in the future. We’ll definitely announce the news on BPB if that happens.
