Manx has released Gigmate V2, an updated version of their free Moog Concertmate MG-1 emulation which introduces an improved filter section along with a fine tuned envelope generator.

Manx has released the Gigmate V2 – a major upgrade of the original Manx freebie. They have spent over 18 months radically updating their filter and envelope stages. An inspired move or an obscene miss-allocation of labor and resources?

Gigmate V2 is a faithful virtual re-creation of the Concertmate MG-1 analog synthesizer which was manufactured by Moog in 1981 and then also by Radio Shack in 1982-1983. The original instrument was an entry level synthesizer, but it was quite popular back in the day because it featured a polyphonic string section. Polyphony was a rare feature back then, especially in cheaper instruments. Concertmate MG-1 is still quite popular on the second hand market, due to its low price when compared to other Moog instruments.

When compared the original Gigmate release from 2011 (here’s our news item about the first version), the updated Gigmate V2 introduces a better sounding filter module, as well as an improved envelope. Most changes were made under the hood, so the interface of the updated version is practically the same as the original one.

Other features include ring modulation, S&H, MIDI learn, patch memory, among others. The instrument is listed in our round-up of free emulation instruments, which also features dozens of other cool virtual synthesizers modeled after hardware gear.

Gigmate V2 is currently available in 32-bit VSTi plugin format for Windows only. A Mac version of the instrument has been announced (sort of) on the product page, however it won’t be released anytime soon.
