SampleScience Releases FREE 1960s Piano Virtual Instrument

SampleScience releases 1960s Piano, a FREE virtual piano instrument in VST and AU plugin formats for Windows and macOS.

The 1960s Piano plugin is based on a Kawai Model 600 semi-grand piano, which was released in the early ’60s.

Kawai is a Japanese company initially founded in the late 1920s. They were known for pioneering alternative materials and making long-lasting, durable pianos.

The vintage tone of the Kawai Model 600 shines in the 1960s Piano plugin.

This virtual instrument’s forefront is an efficiently laid out, easy-to-use interface. Producers can choose from basic ADSR controls and a preamp and glide control.

The piano’s tone is warm and vintage but has a slightly modern touch.

With four velocity layers, 1960s Piano maintains a vintage and organic feel despite being a virtual instrument.

SampleScience themselves say, “it’s the perfect piano for your lo-fi beats to study to, indie rock tunes, and lo-fi ambient tracks!”

Other effects are added, too, such as a multi-LFO with various controls such as LFO wave, target, and source.

The built-in LFO makes it easy for producers to further modify their vintage Piano tone without needing extensive external plugins.

In addition to this LFO, SampleScience included filters, voice modes, and velocity curves.

Velocity curves help preserve the authenticity of a real-life piano, often lost in virtual instruments. Producers can adjust the included curves depending on whether you want a softer or harder tone.

Users can also choose from an LPF or HPF and between three different voice modes: polyphonic, monophonic, and legato.

As a final touch, SampleSciene added in a built-in room reverb. This allows for some vintage and dreamy piano tones.

1960s Piano also has a master pan, volume, and cutoff control to assist with mixing.
