Audio Desk has released MB3X, a freeware MAM MB33 mkII inspired monophonic bass synthesizer in VSTi plugin format for Windows based computers.

MB3X is available for free download via Audio Desk (1.9 MB download size, ZIP archive, 32-bit VSTi plugin format for Windows).

MB3X is a virtual monophonic bass synthesizer, suitable for synthesizing those classic acid basslines. The instrument design and features are inspired by the MAM MB33 mkII, which is a well known Roland TB-303 clone from the 90s.
The developers have done a good job at replicating the functionality of the original hardware instrument. MB3x is single oscillator subtractive synthesizer featuring saw and square waveforms, an additional sub oscillator, an aggressive 24 db LP filter with overdrive and screaming resonance on the higher settings, as well as a handy distortion unit for adding character to the output signal. The instrument also features 2X oversampling and comes bundled with a set of ten factory presets.
This plugin is actually the first ever release by Audio Desk. Considering the quality and the overall polish of this free product, I’m really looking forward to their future releases.
In the meanwhile, if you’re looking for more VSTi plugins which sound similar to the TB-303, take a look at the brilliant Venom VB-303 which is linked above. It’s a superb emulation of the original instrument, although you may find it a bit hard to control at first.
