BurghRecords Releases Free PhatNoise Simple ModFilter VST Plugin

BurghRecords has released PhatNoise Simple ModFilter, a freeware modulated filter effect in VST plugin format for Windows-based host applications.

I’ve always been a fan of simple VST plugins. They (when done right) conserve CPU power, speed up my mixing workflow, and sometimes offer unique features not available in larger, more complex plugins. The PhatNoise Simple Modfilter by BurghRecords makes the list for me as it only has two pairs of Depth/Rate modulators and one LFO. The fact that it is freeware is a bonus.

The YouTube demo provides a run through of the presets and general abilities of this plugin. In my opinion, it could be a good option for a beginner, and the overall sound is very musical. The LFO on the PhatNoise Simple Modfilter has a waveform selector, rate control, and normal/quad toggle. Even though this is a fairly straightforward filter effect the developer has provided 20 presets to get you started and to show off the various functionalities.

One feature that I would have loved to see is a host-sync option for the modulation rate parameter. Currently, the rate cannot be set to modulate the filter based on quarter, eight, sixteenth notes, etc., of your DAW’s BPM setting. However, you can convert your project’s BPM setting to a Hz value using a free tool such as the LFO Speed Calculator.

PhatNoise Simple ModFilter is only available for Windows at the moment. It is available for free download from the product page linked below, although you will need to complete the checkout process in order to download your copy of the plugin.

PhatNoise Simple ModFilter is available for free download via BurghRecords (21.7 MB download size, RAR archive, 32-bit & 64-bit VST plugin format for Windows).
