Noiiz Filter Is A FREE Noise Generator VST/AU Plugin For Your DAW

Noiiz has announced the release of Noiiz Filter, a freeware filter effect with a built-in noise generator available in VST, AU, and AAX plugin formats for compatible host applications on PC and Mac.

Noiiz Filter is a combination of a multi-mode resonant filter effect and a noise generator offering 51 different noise types. The noise can be blended with the processed audio signal to add character, or used at 100% wet as a standard noise generator. The plugin also features a built-in drive circuit which saturates the signal before it hits the filter module.

The filter module features nine different filter types (various low-pass, high-pass, band-pass, and notch filters). It’s a fairly clean and digital sounding filter which doesn’t aim to model the non-linearities of analog filters in great detail. The different modes do provide quite a bit of flexibility, though, and I was able to achieve some sweet sounding sweeps using the 6 dB/octave low-pass filter with moderate resonance. The optional saturation module is subtle and certainly useful for adding some harmonic content to make the filtered signal sound more interesting.

The thing that truly makes Noiiz Filter stand out, however, is the included noise generator. It blends a looped noise source with the audio signal on the input, providing an easy way to add a bit of character to the otherwise bland sounding filter. There are many different types of noise on offer, from pure white noise to various electric hums, nature sounds, and field recordings. The selected noise source can be pitched up or down and the volume can be adjusted using the mix knob. When set to 100%, the plugin acts as a filtered noise generator (any signal on the input will be muted). I was hoping that the noise generator could also be used to modulate the filter cutoff, but it only works as an audio source.

You can download your free copy of Noiiz Filter completely free of charge from the product page linked below. Signing up for a Noiiz user account is required but you can unsubscribe at any time and the plugin doesn’t have to be activated once installed. Simply run the downloaded installer and you’re good to go. The effect is compatible with all VST, AU, and AAX plugin hosts on PC and Mac.

Noiiz Filter is available for free download via Noiiz (170 MB download size, ZIP archive containing EXE installer, 32-bit & 64-bit VST/AU/AAX plugin format for Windows & MacOS).

  1. Hi there, this is a promising new tool for me, but how did you get it to work as a noise generator? I can’t get it to make sound at all unless there is some audio fed into it and that audio is always affecting the character of the noise to some degree.
