Free Yamaha PSS-470 Sample Collection Released By Dark Side Of The Tune

Dark Side Of The Tune has released FM-FLUX, a free collection of Yamaha PSS-470 toy FM synthesizer samples processed with Moog outboard gear.

FM-FLUX is a new free sample library from Dark Side of the Tune. Original sounds were created with the Yamaha PSS-470, a Digital FM synthesizer.

FM-FLUX is available for free download via Dark Side Of The Tune’s SoundCloud page (22.1 MB download size, ZIP archive, contains 56 audio samples in 24-bit WAV format).

The sample collection is hosted on Google Drive. To grab all the samples in one pack, follow the download link provided on the SoundCloud page linked above and click File >> Download or hit CTRL + S on your keyboard.

FM-FLUX consists of drum and synth one shot samples which were recorded from the Yamaha PSS-470 toy keyboard. This toy keyboard is actually an FM synthesizer  in sheep’s clothing, with some basic editing controls available on the front panel. I used to own a similar Yamaha toy keyboard (the Yamaha PSS-390) and had a blast playing around with it! These things can be programmed to generate some pretty freaky sounds without much fuss.

The sounds were processed with the MF-108M Cluster Flux flanger effect and an analogue chorus pedal. This processing gives some analog depth and instability to otherwise clean and raw digital sounds of the Yamaha PSS-470 toy keyboard.

If you like these sounds, check out my free collection of Yamaha SHS-10 keytar samples. I’ve multi-sampled several patches like piano and brass and also captured all of the drum one shot samples.
