Audiobombs has released FM Series Volume 1, a free instrument rack for Ableton Live based on a collection of multi-samples of the legendary Yamaha TX81Z FM synthesizer module.
This is the first in a series of FM multi-sample packs from Audiobombs.com . We’ve scoured through hundreds of 4-OP FM patches with our trusty TX81Z and we’re hand picking some of our favorites to sample and make available as free Ableton instruments.
The sample library is designed for use with Ableton Live, but the great news is that the download pack also contains individual WAV files. This means that you can grab these free FM sounds and use them in virtually any DAW or sampler instrument out there.
The first edition in what is going to become a series of free TX81Z based instrument packs contains 3 multi-sampled patches with multiple velocity layers per note. The samples have been recorded directly from the Yamaha TX81Z module. You can hear short previews of all three included patches in the audio demo embedded below.

My favorite part of their site are the free synthesizer sound banks which can be browsed very quickly. Simply pick a synthesizer from the list and all available sound banks for that particular instrument will show up on the screen. This includes both software and hardware synthesizers.
The site also features free Ableton Live racks (such as the one featured on this page), Reason ReFills, sample libraries, loop collections, and various other goodies. All featured items are hosted with permission of the original authors.
