Mark Henning has announced that his AnaMark hybrid virtual synthesizer in VSTi plugin format for Windows based digital audio workstations is now available as a free download from his website.

I think that AnaMark still can be considered a synth with interesting possibilities, and so I decided to make it freely available to everyone. Just visit the AnaMark website for details.

Although you’re probably not impressed by the sole fact that another virtual synthesizer is offered as freeware, AnaMark has several interesting tricks up its sleeve which might make you change your opinion. For starters, the oscillator section is surprisingly robust when compared to most other freeware synthesizers out there, packing 52 basic waveforms which can be combined inside each of the oscillators in order to get over 2000 different timbres.

Things get really interesting once you realize that AnaMark features 21 different types of synthesis. From standard subtractive synthesis to phase modulation, frequency modulation, additive synthesis and ring modulation (to name just a few), the possibilities for tweaking your sounds are almost limitless. A fairly capable FX section is also included, with 11 different effect types covering delay, reverb, chorus, etc.

Adding to all of this, AnaMark also supports micro tuning, as well as morphing between different intonations while playing. Fans of micro tuning will enjoy the option of using Scala scale files in SCL format and Scala keyboard mappings in KBM format.

The instrument is delivered with 545 factory presets, which is more than enough to get you started. Another nifty option is the random preset generator, which allows the user to randomize all the parameters of the synthesis engine with a single click.

AnaMark was originally priced at €42 when it was first released back in 2005 (almost 10 years ago!). It is now offered as a free download from the developer’s website. To install the instrument on your machine, you’ll need to download both the installer and the DLL file as separate packages. Follow the instructions provided on the download page linked below in order to set everything up properly on your machine.
