Wavosaur has announced the release of Rave Generator, a free sample based instrument in VSTi plugin format for Windows based host applications.
Rave Generator VST by DJ * CSI * is a free rompler VST synth, containing many of the classic sounds of the early rave / hardcore from the 90′s.
Rave Generator is a free rompler in VSTi plugin format, featuring a set of classic multi-sampled rave instruments. Most of the included samples sound very good and there’s enough sound variety in the factory content to make this instrument a worthy download for the users who are looking for this type of sounds.

On the other hand, Rave Generator could definitely benefit from a couple of GUI improvements. At the moment, the only way to browse through different sets of multi-samples is to load different presets in FXP format. A better solution would be to have a sample set browser on the GUI and use the presets to store different parameter settings. Also, adding some basic filter controls and an ADSR envelope would be a very nice improvement.
I would love to see an updated version of this instrument, or perhaps an alternative sample pack version with NKI and SFZ mappings. At the moment, the instrument is available as a 32-bit and 64-bit VSTi plugin for Windows. You can take a listen to the audio demos on the product page linked below.
