Free Star Instruments Synare 3 Sound Pack By Synth Magic

Synth Magic has introduced Synth Magic Synare Volume 2, a free collection of Star Instruments Synare 3 analogue drum module samples and instrument patches for NI Kontakt 5.

The Synare 3 is a portable battery-powered analogue drum synthesizer which was manufactured from 1977 to 1982. The instrument was noted for its unusual oval shape (it looks like a thin snare drum with lots of knobs and switches around the edges) and high portability (instruments which run on batteries were not all that common back in the day). Its drum synthesis engine was quite similar to those of other instruments in the late 1970s era, featuring two VCOs with an additional white noise generator, a resonant low-pass filter and simple AD (attack + decay) envelopes for volume, filter and pitch.

With such a rudimentary synthesis engine, Synare 3 is by no means an exceptionally versatile instrument. On the other hand, it’s the perfect tool for generating all of those wonderful old school sweeps and noises which are getting popular once again today in genres like chillwave and glo-fi. If you’re looking for these types of sounds but don’t necessarily plan on purchasing an old hardware synthesizer in order to re-create them in your studio, you’re definitely in luck because Synth Magic have made a great little collection of authentic Synare 3 sounds and released it as a free download for everyone interested.

The latest Synth Magic freebie features 203 individual samples in 24-bit WAV format, covering almost the entire sound spectrum of the Synare 3. The pack contains dozens of lovely white noise snares, short bursts of noise, disco toms and similar vintage drum sounds. Kontakt 5 owners also have the option of using a handy custom-built virtual instrument which is based on the same sample set and features additional on-screen controls for manipulating the sounds. You can really make some fantastic old school sci-fi noises with the provided NKI patches, especially once you add some of the built-in reverb and delay SFX to the mix.

The sound library is provided completely free of charge, no registration or email sign-up required (the link to the download page is in the downloads section below). The same page on Synth Magic’s website features several other goodies which you can also download and use for free, so get ready to have some serious vintage analogue synth fun this Sunday evening.
