HOFA-Plugins Releases Free 4U+ DynamicTiltEQ

2

HOFA-Plugins has introduced 4U+ DynamicTiltEQ, the world’s first dynamic tilt equalizer plugin. The basic version of the plugin is free to download and use, with an optional $39 upgrade ($29 introductory price) which adds the dynamics features.

So, the free version of the plugin isn’t really a dynamic tilt EQ. It is “just” a standard tilt equalizer, although it is still more advanced in certain aspects compared to other freeware offerings in this category.

Most importantly, the free version of 4U+ DynamicTiltEQ can run in stereo and mid/side modes, allowing for some fine tuning of your audio source’s stereo image. In addition, the tilt curve can be customized using the Width parameter, so that the tone shaping effect can be more or less pronounced as you approach the extreme highs and lows. The plugin also features a Mix knob, for some quick and easy analog processing, as well as up to 64X oversampling (this results in a 50% CPU hit on our test machine, though). Last but not least, a pair of HP and LP filters is also included, with adjustable 6 dB / 12 dB slope.

Like with most other HOFA-Plugins offerings, you get a modern (if a bit too dark) user interface which can be resized to fit your screen’s resolution. An easy to use A/B testing utility is included as well, along with a handy preset manager, although you certainly won’t be saving too many presets with a simple plugin like this one. Still, it might be useful if you want to share the same setting across the project, or make your own custom default preset for later use.

Clicking the dynamics buttons in the lower part of the GUI will open an upgrade window asking you to purchase the full version of the plugin and thus expand its feature set. The paid version also activates the built-in real time spectrum analyzer. Apart from the pop-up which appears when you click the buttons, you won’t be reminded that you’re using the free version of the plugin, so I would not categorize 4U+ DynamicTiltEQ as nagware. The plugin is indeed free to use and the premium upgrade is completely optional.

Since some of our readers were confused by the installation procedure for the previously featured 4U+ BlindTest plugin from the same company, here’s a quick look at the proper way to install the free HOFA-Plugins software on your machine. Firstly, install the online version of the HOFA-Plugins installer from their website. Run the installer and select only the plugins that you’d like to install on your computer. Press the Start button and choose a directory on your hard drive. The installer will download the selected software and install the files in the designated folder. After this, you do not need to click the Activate button (this was the confusing part for some of our readers). Simply close the installer and your freeware plugins are ready to use!
