SampleScience has announced the release of Nostromos Light, a lightweight freeware version of their commercial Nostromos rompler instrument in VST/AU plugin formats for PC and Mac based hosts.
Nostromos Light is the second Maize Sampler based plugin featured in our software news section this week, following the interesting Experimental Drums instrument made by Paree Katti. This brand new SampleScience release is one of the nicest Maize Sampler instruments I’ve reviewed lately, sporting a gorgeous futuristic instrument panel and all the necessary controls for quick and easy shaping of the bundled sounds. The annoying Maize Sampler envelope knob issues are still there (only one half of each ADSR knob is actually functional, it’s a known inconvenience when building a virtual instrument with Maize Sampler), but other than that the GUI is very well made.
The freeware edition contains only five patches, which is quite a limitation when compared to the full version of the instrument which contains a total of 80 factory patches. Still, Nostromos Light completely free to download from the developer’s website and the five included presets do sound very nice. Being extremely light in terms of CPU consumption and providing a surprising amount of versatility with its Noise, Sub, Crackles, Dust and Saturation knobs, Nostromos Light could easily become one of your go-to sources of lush pads and unstable BOC-style background textures.
The full version of Nostromos is priced at $29.99 and SampleScience is offering a full refund in case you have any issues with your purchase. The free version can be download directly from the product page linked below, no signup or subscription required.
Nostromos Light is available for free download via SampleScience (237 MB download size, ZIP archive, 32-bit & 64-bit VST/AU plugin format for Windows & Mac OS, made with Maize Sampler).
