Free Reverb SOLO VST/AU Plugin By Acon Digital

Reverb.com has released Reverb SOLO (developed by Acon Digital), a freeware reverb VST/AU/AAX plugin for 32-bit and 64-bit host applications on Windows and Mac OS.

Reverb SOLO was developed by Acon Digital, the company with a number of high-quality commercial VST plugins in their product arsenal, along with a fantastic freeware chorus effect called Multiply (it is listed as one of the top picks in our roundup of freeware chorus VST plugins). The company has also developed Acoustica Basic Edition which is listed as one of our favorite free audio editors.

I’ve always been a big fan of simple one-knob plugins (as long as they do the job well), so it’s no wonder that I find the idea of an easy to use one-knob reverb effect rather appealing. Of course, the fact that the plugin is easy to use wouldn’t mean anything if it sounded bad, but luckily Reverb SOLO is a very well made and pleasant sounding reverb effect.

So, how does it work? You get just a single knob, joined by a slider at the bottom of the user interface. The knob controls the size and tone of the reverb (from a tiny bright space to a larger, darker space), whereas the slider controls the mix. It’s not possible to alter the tone and size of the reverb in any way, apart from changing them simultaneously using the knob. The plugin also features a built-in preset manager (no factory presets), as well as undo/redo and A/B testing functionality.

Surprisingly or not, the reverb sounds very good and it works equally well for emulating small rooms and huge acoustic spaces. If you want to add some nice-sounding reverb to your mix as quickly as possible, Reverb SOLO seems to be the perfect tool for the task. After all, the included reverb algorithm is based on Acon Digital’s commercial Verberate plugin which is regarded as one of the best reverb effects on the market.

Before downloading your free copy of Reverb SOLO, you’ll be asked to registered for a free Reverb.com user account. After registering, you’ll receive a ZIP archive which contains separate installers for the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of the plugin (Windows only). There’s no need to activate the product after installing it.

Many thanks to @rekkerd for letting me know about the release via Twitter, cheers buddy!

UPDATE: Reverb SOLO is also available for Mac OS, in VST and AU plugin formats. Thanks for the comments everyone and sorry about the confusion!

Reverb SOLO is available for free download via Reverb.com (5.20 MB download size, ZIP archive containing EXE installer, 32-bit & 64-bit VST/AU/AAX plugin format for Windows & Mac OS).

Hi folks, my name is Justin DeLay, I’m the guy in the video. Would love any feedback on our plugin, and on our SYNC plugin collection in general. What other “one knob” plugins should we do?

    • If there was an overdrive/distortion “pedal” that increased drive or gain along with compression as the one knob is turned…!

    • Thank you for your cool plugin!
How about a “One Knob Audio Transformer” with several modes and a big knob, just like the Audiomatic plugin in Reason? People will love it :D

    • I’d love to see a one-knob glitch plugin, where different points on the knob represent different glitch effects (stutter, tape stop, reverse, overdrive, etc). You could easily switch between effects with automation.

      • Great free reverb! Thank You very much for this! I would love to see a one knob tape saturator/reel-to-reel magnetic tape recorder sound emulator with different modes, a one knob mixing console/recording channel with different types of consoles (API/SSL/Neve), a one knob granulator/granularizer with different modes, a one knob vinyl sound emulator, a one knob tape cassette sound emulator. Anyone of these would be super awesome! :)
