Rosen Digital Releases Free “Pulse” IR Loader VST Plugin

5

Rosen Digital has announced the release of Pulse, a cross-platform impulse response loading platform powered by Ignite Amps and featuring the “Pulse Cab” IR cabinet built into the plugin, which has a tasteful interface with a dual IR cabinet design with mono, dual-mono and stereo routing configurations, among global input level and bypass controls in the top pane.

Both IR cabinets each have a bypass switch, a simple output level knob and a phase on/off control that will invert the phase of a stereo channel independently. There are two buttons that provide the option between the pre-loaded “Pulse” impulse and “Ext. IR”. When selected, the latter of the two will open a browser window below the main controls with a navigation link to your folder of choice so you can load third-party impulse responses into the plugin.

There are also buttons for isolating cabinets “A” & “B” for monitoring purposes, a “Balance” knob (which only works in mono and dual-mono configurations) and a few basic controls down below for processing the two signal outputs differently, such as stereo panning, high-pass and low-pass filtering and up to twenty milliseconds of delay, which helps to create a nice wide stereo image.

I don’t ordinarily use guitar cabinet simulation software mainly because I find even the best IR cabinets sterile and harsh as a result of the sample-rate limitations in digital signal processing. However, I was surprised by how efficiently Pulse implements real-time sample rate conversion, which Rosen Digital describes as “the achilles-heel of all other IR loaders.”

For a limited time, Rosen Digital is offering twice as many impulses per-pack and will update their existing line of impulses in their new format as new cabinets become available. If you’re interested you can check out their extensive line of guitar cabinet impulse responses on their website here.

Pulse is available for free download via Rosen Digital Audio (Mac version 12.9 MB download size, ZIP archive, AU and VST plugin format *AAX version coming soon / Windows version 6.85 MB download size, ZIP archive, 32-bit and 64-bit VST plugin format for Windows).

  1. I wonder if this is anything more than a rebranded NadIR with a free impulse. If they’ve made any improvements while keeping it at zero latency, this is a major freebie

    • From what I was able to find out it is the same engine, but I think the real time sample rate conversion is the biggest change and maybe the latency was improved. It is mostly just a couple different features to make getting your guitar tone easier with being able to compare IRs. Though the Pulse IR that comes with it is also a great starting point and makes it easier to get ready and start tracking as well. I really like the way this one works.

    • There is a video that was released announcing the plugin, and it contained a line that gave the existence of this plugin, which is undoubtedly NadIR reskinned / rebranded / updated, a lot of explanatory scope and power. Averring that the company deals mainly in cabinet impulse responses, for the purpose of clarity, first- That line goes something like, “We will be updating our impulse libraries to our new custom format as cabinets become available.”

It seems like Rosen Digital was looking to obtain a player for a new proprietary format, very likely for the purpose of better protecting their product.

  2. “… because I find even the best IR cabinets sterile and harsh as a result of the sample-rate limitations in digital signal processing.”

Sorry, that is BS. Proven over and over again but you spread the myth against having to know it better.

(Has nothing to do with the plugin. Nevertheless… )

I can’t use the plugin as when i try to load a cab there isn’t any. I had the exact same problem with nadIR. I can’t get it to work i’m so confused. It has download and is working fine, there is just no cabs and no options to select one. I heard i need to upload the impulses but i have no idea how as i’m a complete noob. It doesn’t take me to the folder that opens on all the tutorials i have watched it just opens a random path and i can’t find the impulses anywhere. Someone please help a noob in need! Maybe I’ve put the wrong folders in the wrong place but they were all extracted to vst plugins so i don’t understand why i seem to be the only person with this problem????
