Kontakt Hub is giving away the Free Matrix virtual instrument (NKI format for NI Kontakt) by Channel Robot to all registered members (registration is free).
Free Matrix is a free download for all Kontakt Hub members. It is a sound pack for Native Instruments Kontakt, based on one of the instruments from the the Grid Machine Matrix library by Channel Robot. Interestingly enough, Free Matrix features all of the sounds included in the paid version of Grid Machine Matrix. What’s different, though, is the amount of options available for sequencing the included sounds. The free version features only two scales to choose from for the step sequencer (major and minor) and eight playback patterns. Everything else remains the same, including the amount of onboard effects.
I haven’t spent a lot of time with the instrument, but during the brief test, it seemed like a neat little tool for creating random harmonies and chord sequences. Of course, I’m sure you can go really deep into programming the sequencer to generate more predictable and controlled results, but it’s pretty useful for playing random sequences that can be resampled and edited as audio loops inside a sampler or a wave editor. What’s also interesting is that various effect control parameterw (such as the drive amount in the distortion module) can be sequenced as well, adding a sense of movement and interest to the loop.
To download your copy of Free Matrix, simply register and log in to your Kontakt Hub user account. Once logged in, the Free Matrix product page (linked below) will show a ‘Claim Freebie’ button instead of the ‘Add To Cart’ button. As soon as you click the ‘Claim Freebie’ button, the download link will become available in your user area. You will also earn 30 Kontakt Hub credits. It’s a free rompler instrument for Kontakt that’s definitely worth checking out if you’d like a decent set of electronic sounds to your arsenal.
