AfroDJMac has released Environment Synths, a free Ableton Live instrument pack based on a collection of nature recordings created by ModeAudio.
Environment Synths is a freely downloadable instrument pack for Live 9.7 Standard or higher, containing five different instrument racks. It uses the sounds from three different field recording packs by ModeAudio to create interesting, playable virtual instruments that can be used for layering on top of other sounds, or even as lead instruments. One particularly interesting way to use these instrument racks would be to layer, say, forest or rain sounds on top of a typical synth pad preset to add a more organic, natural sounding feel to it.
As expected from an AfroDJMac release, the provided instrument racks offer a selection of macro controls for manipulating the sounds in real-time. This makes using these instruments a lot more versatile than simply pasting a field recording on an audio track, and definitely easier to do than loading a sound into a sampler and tweaking individual parameters manually. The demo video embedded at the top of this page shows some of the things that can be achieved with Environment Synths.
On a related note, AfroDJMac has recently released his 150th free Ableton Live rack (thank you and congratulations, ADM!).
