Clustersound has informed us that they’ve just released Multiman, a free Ableton Live 9 instrument rack based on the sounds of the Crumar Orchestrator analogue string machine.

Multiman is a Live Pack is based on 5 multi-sample recordings obtained by sampling the five preset sounds: Brass, Piano, Clavichord, Cello and Violin. Multiman delivers 25 Live Presets each of which consists of 61 perfecly looped samples (each note of the 5-octave keyboard).

Clustersound has created 5 multi-sampled recordings of the Orchestrator string machine for this Live 9 pack. The instrument rack features 25 different presets based on a total of 61 looped samples of the original instrument (1 sample per note across 5 octaves). A copy of Ableton Live 9 is required in order to use the provided patches. The patches are compatible with Sampler and Simpler instruments. The pack doesn’t include individual WAV files.

The original instrument was introduced in 1977 under two different names. It was distributed as Crumar Orchestrator in the United States and Crumar Multiman in the rest of the world. The hardware instrument is a classic 70s string machine, suitable for generating string ensemble sounds and lush analogue string pads.

Please note that you’ll need to register for a user account at Clustersound in order to download this free instrument rack. The registration process is completely free. Email verification is required.

Unfortuntely, there are no official audio or video demos of the Multiman rack. To give you an idea about the sound of this virtual instrument, I’ve embedded a video demonstration of the original Crumar Orchestrator below.
