GMH Audio Releases FREE Wave Destroyer Distortion Plugin

GMH Audio has released Wave Destroyer, a freely downloadable (pay what you want) distortion effect in VST3 and AU plugin formats for compatible digital audio workstations on PC and Mac.

Wave Destroyer is a free distortion effect programmed by GMH Audio, the developer behind the free Buzz Cut soft clipper plugin, which we covered back in 2018. Whereas Buzz Cut focused on a single method of audio distortion, the new Wave Destroyer effect delivers a much more extensive arsenal of distortion types. The plugin also includes a set of frequency shaping features that make it a much more powerful sound design tool.

The plugin features three distortion modes: Saturate, Distort, and Destroy. Each mode can be fine-tuned using the Drive control, as well as the Asymmetry and Bias adjustments. Wave Destroyer also includes two EQ stages (pre-distortion and post-distortion), input and output gain adjustments, oversampling, a DC filter, a mix control, and a bypass switch. The two equalizer sections feature five adjustable frequency bands. It’s possible to link the two EQs for more effortless operation.

Wave Destroyer is an audio distortion plugin capable of a massive range of tones. The distortion character is endlessly tweak-able thanks to a unique compliment of controls as well as independent pre and post EQ sections. It can be used subtly as a saturator and exciter or it can be a tool of ultimate sonic destruction.

Thanks to its three distortion algorithms, Wave Destroyer is a rather versatile distortion utility. You can use it as a subtle saturation tool, a stompbox-style fuzz distortion unit, or as a crazy distortion effect for total audio annihilation.

Wave Destroyer can be downloaded for free from the GMH Audio website. Enter zero as the amount to download the plugin for free, or choose any other amount if you’d like to donate to the developer. The software is available in VST3 and AU plugin formats for 64-bit plugin hosts on Windows and macOS. The plugin doesn’t require activation – simply extract the downloaded ZIP archive and copy the included files to your plugin folder.

  1. Simple, yet complete. Skeuomorphic but clear, well laid-out, almost flat UI. A nice distortion, there’s a dozen of those-but wait… There’s more. Convenient tools before and after to fine-tune the sound. Gone the need to insert other plugins to filter and EQ. It would be interesting to see it get more ‘models’ in the future, but it’s already great as it is.
