The effect plugins are modeled on classic BBE pedals. BBE pedals often emulate other iconic pedals but manage to separate themselves enough to be more than just a cheap clone. Rather than go through them all, I’ll pick a couple that stand out to me, and those are the Green Screamer and Sonic Stomp.
The BBE Green Screamer is based on the Ibanez Tube Screamer, without being an exact clone. It’s an excellent overdrive pedal that probably has a little more gain than an original Tube Screamer. It seems more useable in general, too, in terms of how tweakable it is.
The Sonic Stomp is a pedal version of BBE’s somewhat iconic Sonic Maximizer rackmount unit. While it’s fair to say the Sonic Maximizer is iconic, it’s also fair to say it’s not without its detractors; you either love it or hate it. The Sonic Stomp adds clarity and tackles any phase issues and is often used as an always-on pedal at the end of a chain.
You can use the plugins/pedals individually, outside of the Stomp Board host. But, when using the virtual pedalboard, you can add pedals easily then drag & drop them wherever you like in your chain.
The Gui is straightforward, as you’d want from a pedalboard. I used a Headrush pedalboard for a little while, but I haven’t spent too much time with virtual pedalboards, not even the Logic Pro X one. What I can say is that some BBE pedals are very underrated, so you get a nice little collection in an easy-to-use package.
Above the pedals are controls for the amp that includes gate, amp select (clean to light crunch), tone, and reverb. The tone control is your global EQ, and the reverb is a built-in spring reverb impulse. There are some presets to choose from, too.
If the pedal models are all pretty close to the hardware versions, then Stomp Board should be great for people who play guitar better than I do, which I hope is most of you.
